Gatineau, Canada: The USA Men’s U21 Junior National team kicked off its NorCECA Continental championship pool play in Gatineau, Canada, with a 21-15, 25-15, 25-16 sweep of Barbados. The USA MJNT seeks a bid for the 2017 U21 World Championship. “Compared to some recent years when I have been involved (with the American team), we are a little bit bigger and a little bit cleaner,” coach Jay Hosack said. “But Canada and Cuba (who are both in Group B) are really good teams and we have to fight hard to get through this thing.” More information can be found on the USA volleyball site here: Bangkok, Thailand The USA women’s national team began the final round of Grand Prix pool play in Bangkok, Thailand, with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of the Netherlands, a Rio pool play opponent. They opened with a 25-16, 25-10, 25-18 sweep over Costa Rica, as former Penn State star Micha Hancock set a Pan Am record with 11 aces. And then this team of the next generation of U.S. standouts beat Olympics-bound Argentina 25-14, 25-13, 25-23 on Wednesday to advance to the semifinals.
