Double the fun for the Marciniaks at NVL Columbus - Articles

There was celebration in the Marciniak household Saturday as both Piotr Marciniak/Skylar DelSol and Karolina Marciniak/Raquel Ferreira won NVL Columbus (Ohio) championships. The newlywed couple had never won NVL doubles championships on the same day, although they were crowned King and Queen of the Beach at NVL Vegas in 2013. Including today’s wins, Piotr has five NVL titles, Karolina nine. One of their goals for this year was to win NVL on the same day, according to Piotr. “Either you win, or I win, so let’s win on the same day. Let’s make it happen. It finally did, and I’m really happy about this tournament,” Piotr Marciniak said. “My partner played great in the finals, he totally took over the game. Our teamwork is improving every tournament.” Karolina added, “Hopefully we can win a couple more tournaments together this year. Port St. Lucie is the big one for us. We’ll definitely be ready for that one, that’s our goal.” In the women’s final, Karolina/Ferreira avenged last night’s loss to No. 4 Kim Hildreth/Maryna Samoday 21-16, 15-21, 15-12. Then Piotr/DelSol won in straight sets 21-14, 21-17 over No. 1 Dave Palm/Eric Zaun, completing the Marciniak sweep. There were relatively few upsets in Columbus on Saturday. The top seeded teams came through on both the men’s and women’s sides. No. 6 Laurie Bachler/Kaley Melville pulled off a minor upset (21-19, 19-21, 15-9) over No. 5 Lauren Dickson/Jayna Duke. Bachler/Melville appear to be hitting mid-season stride as they also played No. 1 Ferreira/Marciniak very tough in a 21-19, 21-17...
